Quarantine found me living at home with my parents and 3 of my siblings for the first time in nearly 12 years. This unique time together led to some amazing collaborations. Possibly the best came in the form of a short-form series we conceptualized, wrote, and produced in a matter of weeks called “Curated”.
Curated found place between the restrictions of filming within COVID limitations and having an 8-month pregnant woman play the leading character. During her two previous pregnancies, my sister Aurora had turned down a national tour, lost a great agent, and felt generally ostracized in the entertainment industry. Curated created a role for her as an expecting mother, and provided us the unique opportunity to bring awareness to birth and it's many forms--a subject near to our hearts as I was born at home, and Aurora has now delivered 3 of her own children at home.
The story of Curated revolves around a young momfluencer who—in her struggles to find authenticity and balance with her family—decides to livestream her homebirth in an attempt to boost her following. We shot the last 4 episodes of the series while Aurora was 8 months pregnant, all in her apartment in LA. It was so amazing to see people coming together even under the strict pandemic restrictions to make some interesting work.
Because of the nature of the project, I got to wear many hats! Up front I helped develop a simple campaign to collect real stories from influencers to incorporate in the script, I shot and edited a promotional video, and got to run 2nd camera as AC on set. I even managed to cameo in one of the episodes!
